JACKSON, Tenn. - The NCAA has given final approval for active membership to Union University in a July 22 vote by the management council. The 3-year membership process has come to an end, making Union a active member of division II athletics.
In a letter to Union president Dr. Samuel W. "Dub" Oliver Wednesday, July 23, NCAA representation stated, "On behalf of the NCAA Division II Membership Committee, I am pleased to inform you that your institution has been invited to begin active Division II membership starting September 1, 2014. Beginning September 1, your institution will be eligible to participate in NCAA championships, to vote at the annual NCAA Convention and have access to the NCAA Division II enhancement fund."
Union's first official sporting event as an active member of NCAA Division II will be September 5 when volleyball, men's soccer, and women's soccer all open their season's on the road. Union first home event as an active member will be September 12 when again, men's soccer, women's soccer, and volleyball will all be playing at home.
