BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Union University men's and women's basketball teams combined to place 14 student-athletes on the Gulf South Conference Academic Honor Roll for the 2012-13 season.
Union was the third highest on the list of players on the honor roll with 14, including 10 women's players and four men's players. Alabama-Huntsville led the way on the Winter Academic Honor Roll, placing 20 student-athletes, while
Christian Brothers was second with 15. Three other schools also hit double figures:
West Georgia (12),
North Alabama (10) and
Shorter (10). Qualification for the Honor Roll is automatic (there is no vote) and is based on a minimum 3.00 overall grade-point average.
Ten Union Lady Bulldogs earned the honor including
Chelsea Bodiford,
Grace Fern,
Astrid Huttemann,
LaTesa McLaughlin,
Paige Parker,
Amy Philamlee,
Amber Rechis,
Kelsey Risner, Rebecca Shapre, and
Emily Sissom.
Four men's players earned the honor including
Zach Buck,
Eric Leisey,
Paul Valdor, and
Will Duncan.
These 14 winter sport student-athletes join the 51 Union student-athletes from soccer, volleyball, and cross country who earned spots on the
GSC Fall Academic Honor Roll. The spring honor roll including baseball, softball, and golf will be released at the end of the semester.
