BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference has released the 2017 GSC FireSeeds Spring Academic Award list. Union University had four student-athletes make all-academic, while 38 student-athletes in four sports (baseball, softball, men's and women's golf) were named to the honor roll list. The 38 spring honor roll recipients for Union is a new high for the spring sports total. 

KayCee Lindberg (Clarksville, Tenn.) of the women's golf team and Emily Bennett (Dyersburg, Tenn.) from softball, along with Tyler Mauzy (Powder Springs, Ga.) and Zach Wylie (Collierville, Tenn.) from the baseball team were each voted to the GSC All-Academic Team. Wylie was a repeat selection from 2016. Lindberg (women's golf) and Bennett (softball) each recorded the first GSC All-Academic for Union in their respective sports.

The baseball team had 18 players named to the GSC Honor Roll including Cooper Bullough, Mason Castile, Marty Coursey, Caleb DeMarigny, Chase Diggs, Charlie Ellis, JD Fuzzell, Skyler Harrison, Tyler Mauzy, JR Miller, Austin Orr, Zach Phillips, David Robins, Walter Rook, Ryne Roper, Tommy Weiler, Andrew Wilson and Zach Wylie. 

Union's softball team had 13 players make the honor roll including Haley Barnette, Emily Bennett, Hailey Cummings, Parker Davis, Marley Dyess, Ashley Graves, Molly McKelvy, Alyssa Merritt, Anna Morris, Gabby Morris, Samantha Ortiz, Kristen Pickens and Ashley Scott.

The men's golf team had four players make the honor roll including Blake Karnes, Braxton Rider, Jon Sain and Cal Templeton. 

The women's golf team had three players make the honor roll including Joy Cooper, KayCee Lindberg and Meghan Poulan. 

The all-academic team nominees consist of student-athletes with a 3.2 GPA or higher, is at least a sophomore and has contributed athletically. These are voted on by the FAR's and SID's in the conference. The honor is a list of all varsity student-athletes with at least a 3.0 GPA.
