BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference release the 2017 Fall Academic Awards. Union University had two student-athletes selected to the GSC All-Academic Teams and 59 student-athletes named to the GSC Honor Roll. 

To be nominated for the all-academic team, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore or above, having played one season for the school, and have at least a 3.2 GPA. The all-academic teams are voted on by the SIDs and FARs in the conference. The honor roll is made up of all student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA or higher, regardless of classification. 

Cole Asfour and Casper Nyberg of the Union men's soccer team were selected to the all-academic team. Both are first time selections to the team. 

Union had 59 student-athletes on the honor roll. This was two more that last year and ranks as the fourth most on the fall honor roll in Union history. 

Men's cross country had seven players named to the honor roll including Joshua Whitney, Michael Drury, Forrest White, Caleb Allen, Alex Russell, Justine Kipkoech, and Derrick Kipruto. 

Nine women's cross country runners were named to the honor roll including Amy McKelvey, Amanda Leatherwood, Jordan Meadors, Abby Berends, Gabbie Stevens, Rebecca Tankersley, Brenda Jepkoech, Janey Berends, and Sarah Fickley. 

Men's soccer had 13 players named to the honor roll including Anthony Iacopelli, AJ Morgado, Jacob Greene, John Crawford, Hugo Gaspar, Imani Paluku, Zach Boothe, Casper Nyberg, Euan Morton, Parker Miller, Cole Asfour, Henrique Loureiro, and Paul Langford. 

Women's soccer had 19 players named to the honor roll including Candace Haney, Kristen Francis, Anna Venckus, Olivia Schmitke, Georgia Hopkins, Alli Herring, Madison Studstill, Hannah Hilburn, Hannah Daniel, Samantha Jones, Austen DeLoach, Hannah Hewett, Tiffany Linser, Addison Dunn, Madison Wirth, Victoria Lucido, Taylor Knight, Brooke Watson, and Shelby High.

Volleyball had 11 players named to the honor roll including Clare Taylor, Katie O'Malley, Audrey Cagle, Ceciley Blanchard, Bre Carlton, Lisa Hamilton, Kristen Bukowsky, Meghan Delaney, Anna Claire Winchester, Rebecca Sexton, and Christa Karns.
